First school art project
by Patrick / Raven on Sep.08, 2010, under Images, Journal
This is a colage for my 2D design class. My friend seagrams and i put this together sunday. We are to use textures and optimize visual weight based on texture complexity, size, location, value, difference, and clustering. Granted there are more forums of visual weight but not all fit this project.
I tried to focus on the edges using words and currency in one corner and random shapes in the other however my center textures accidentally ended up being darker than I had wanted and it was too late to do over.
This was mainly challenging as not only my first project but the fact that it could not form a larger picture, it could not be asymmetrical and it could not be closed composition.
I did previously have some concept of visual weight based on size and color and value before from banners and layout design but did not realize how many ways to control that weight there were beyond those, the importance of weight and balance, and how much I use it without realizing it.
At first all the art classes I looked at pessimistically wanting more coding or adobe classes but so far I am enjoying this and I’m finding a deeper respect for art and painters and even finding some I like and having reasons other than it’s pretty… I’ve begun to look forward to this and attempting to use the things I learn in everyday work. I also sorta want to go to a museum now and part of me wishes I knew all of this and respected it as much when I went to ny or dc museums where before I just wanted to leave. I now vow that my vaca days next year will be saved for this!
